Stephen Nicol

Stephen is the managing director of Regeneris Consulting. A specialist in regional economics and economic development, he is able to draw on over 20 years’ experience in private sector consultancy and in the public sector advising central government. Stephen has acted as an expert advisor for the European Commission and UK Government on European programmes and acted as a national advisor to English regional development agencies (RDAs) on their annual Budget input to HM Treasury since 2001.

He has a particular expertise in economic impact assessment, having provided key economic advice to the first Rover Task Force (2000) and the new MG Rover Task Force (2005), set up to minimise the regional and national impacts of the closure of MG Rover’s Longbridge plant.

A highly-respected figure who has had a career as an applied economist spanning HM Treasury, the Department of the Environment and eight years as a professional economist with DTZ Pieda Consulting – where he became Managing Director in 1999. Stephen has acted as an expert witness at many public inquiries into employment land use and the economic impact of airports, ports, higher education expansion.

A keen long-distance runner, cyclist and walker, he enjoys cycling across Britain with his family – usually in the rain.
